FCAN in the Community: Performing Arts at the Heart of Literacy
Program
On
Saturday, January 19th, the Culmore Family Resource Center
hosted the first informational meeting about the Performing
Arts at the Heart of Literacy Program that is being developed
by Sondra Harnes, Artistic Director of the World Children's
Choir, in partnership with the property owner, Sabadell, Inc./Olde
Salem Village, Fairfax Partnership for Youth, the Department
of Family Services, and the Department of Community and Recreation
Services.
Families originally from Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador,
Honduras, Korea, Lithuania, Mexico, Morocco, Nicaragua, Peru,
Somalia and Texas joined in the singing and music-making.
More
learning and more fun was had by all at the next event, an
Open House on Saturday, January 26th, at St. Paul's Episcopal
Church, which included a drumming lesson by Master Artist
Kofi Dennis, of Wolf Trap and Kennedy Center fame, and a joint
rehearsal with the World Children's Choir.

Welcome our New Executive Director
Linda
Eatmon-Jones comes to the Partnership with over 20 years of
corporate and non-profit experience in business and finance operations;
community partnerships; asset management; and mortgage finance in senior
management and consulting roles. She most recently was the DC CASH Campaign
director responsible for the operations of eight volunteer tax sites
in Washington, D.C. and several key Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
Campaign community partnerships. In 2007 the Campaign e-filed over 2300
tax returns totaling over 1.8 million refunds; and, returning over $833,000
in Earned Income Tax Credits to DC residents and their communities.
Linda also coordinated the activities of several Campaign partners providing
services in the areas of: asset-building; consumer credit counseling;
banking; budget; site operations; data collection, analysis and reporting;
volunteer recruitment, hiring and training; and, technology support.
Linda spent over 14 years as an executive in IT finance technology and
asset development with a fortune 500 company. She directed senior business
analysts, accountants and process managers in defining business-driven
solutions for the monthly reporting, remitting, reconciling, and final
reporting of 3.2 million loan records for 350 Cash and Mortgage-Backed
Security lender’s portfolios with a total dollar value exceeding
$200 billion.
Professional affiliations include: Harvard Business School Women’s
Association of DC, Who’s Who of Professional Management, Chesapeake
Bay Organization Development Network, The Society for Organizational
Learning and The Creative Center for Leadership. She received a Bachelor
of Arts in Psychology, completed the Executive MBA in Executive Management
and Leadership Development at the Harvard Business School and has earned
a Masters of Science in Organizational Development and Knowledge Management.
Linda is married to a communications lawyer with an adult son, who
also resides in the area.
New Board Members
Fairfax Partnership for Youth is delighted to welcome Mary Ellen Shaw,
Rev. Wally Jensen, and Donna Wilson to the Board.
Mary Ellen Shaw, retired, is a Superintendent Emeritus for
Falls Church City Public Schools, and an Adjunct Faculty Member/Internship
Supervisor at George Mason University. Her education includes a B.A.
in Government from Ohio University M.Ed. in Elementary Education from
Ohio University. Ms. Shaw has postgraduate courses in administration,
curriculum, and instruction from University of Maryland, University
of Virginia, and Virginia Tech.
Rev. Dr. Wollom A. Jensen has recently returned to lead Messiah
Lutheran Church from his position as Executive Vice President of Lutheran
Theological Seminary in Gettysburg. Pastor Jensen was previously our
interim pastor from 2001 to 2004. He has served as pastor of Nativity
Lutheran Church, also in Alexandria, and of St. Matthew Lutheran Church
in Richmond. Besides his work in civilian ELCA churches, Pastor Jensen
worked as a Navy chaplain for twenty-four years. He holds two master’s
degrees from Lutheran Theological Seminary and a doctorate in communications
from George Mason University.
Donna M. Wilson, AVP Client Manager for The Business Bank,
has been banking for 10 years. She specializes in giving special customer
service to consumer and small business banking customers.
Donna graduated from GMU with a degree in Business Administration.
Before her banking career she was longtime retailer managing furniture
and clothing stores. She received many awards for having the number
one volume business in each of her locations.
Donna has been an officer for Business Networking International and
board member for the Annandale Chamber of Commerce. Donna is currently
a member of the Profit Club, TIPS, and Success in the City; a contributor
and participant of The Women’s Business Center; and just recently
became a board member for the Fairfax Partnership for Youth. She is
an active member in VTRCC and since she resides in Springfield with
her husband and son, she is busy with Lee High School sports activities
and the Daventry Dolphin swim team.

to One of our Newest Board Members
Tyson’s Regional Chamber of Chamber Member of the Month Donna
Wilson has been named Vienna Tyson’s Regional Chamber of Chamber.
The VTRCC Member of the Month is a program to thank those Chamber members
who have gone “above and beyond” the call of duty. Members
are selected based on their level of involvement with the Chamber and
the community at large.
New FCAN Coordinator
Linda Gawthrop joins FPY as the new FCAN coordinator and brings a wealth
of community-based experience with organizations that impact the lives
of youth. Linda’s professional achievements are numerous including
several leadership roles at the Oakton High School PTSA, Luther Jackson
Middle School PTA and the Mosby Woods Elementary School PTA. She has
been the recipient of several community and school-based awards to include
the Phi Delta Kappa Friend of Education Award, Volunteer Fairfax Leadership
Award and the FCPS Volunteer Recognition Award.
Most recently, Linda was an administrative assistant at the Newton
Marasco Foundation where she maintained donor and volunteer data bases;
planned award ceremonies and special events; provided general program
support for the Volunteer Programs.
In the role of FCAN coordinator, Linda will focus on expanding the
network of after school program providers; and, providing a venue for
information, resource sharing and training that result in increased
collaboration with county and school after school programs.
