Volunteer

ADULT VOLUNTEERS (Ages 18 and above):

Mentor: Works with a student 1-2 hours per week to build self confidence and academic skills. FPY refers potential mentors to our network of partners who provide programs through more than 100 Northern VA public schools, and public and non-profit agencies. Visit our program list at http://www.fairfaxyouth.org/mentoring_programs.xml. Contact info for individual programs is provided there. Requires a minimum one year commitment.

Graphic design and publicity: Works with our program staff to develop graphic materials and conduct publicity outreach for our upcoming Mental Wellness Conference and Families for Kids 5K Walk. Must have excellent graphic design and written communications skills. Volunteers at our office at Fairfax Government Center; some work from your home may be possible. 3-4 month commitment.

Support On Suspension (SOS) Site Volunteer: SOS sites in Huntington, Culmore, and Lorton provide supervision and guidance for students who have been suspended from school. Volunteers work with students on academics and life skills 2-5 hours per week at the site nearest them. Requires commitment through the end of the 09-10 school year.

Administrative Support: Completes data entry, filing, copying, phone calls with supervision of our Executive Assistant. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel. Volunteers at our office at Fairfax Government Center. Minimum 4 hours per week, requires a 3-6 month commitment.


Event Planning Assistance: Supports Program Directors with tasks related to preparing for our upcoming Mental Wellness Conference and Families for Kids 5K, including phone calls, data entry, filing, copying, etc. Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills. 3-4 month commitment. Volunteers at our office at Fairfax Government Center; some work from your home may be possible. 3-4 month commitment.

YOUTH VOLUNTEERS (Ages 14-17) Program Advisors (up to 8 positions available): represents youth perspective in our various programs, including Bullying Prevention activities, mental wellness, mentoring, etc. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. 4-6 hour monthly commitment.
